Monthly Edit: August

Last month, Sarah shared what summer means to her in The July Edit. For her, summer was spent on the shores of Lake Michigan. Having grown up in Italy, my summers were spent on the Mediterranean coast, blinded by bright white stucco villas contrasted by a brilliant blue sky. Where I am from, the month of August is a holiday. Entire families escape city life and head to their countryside farmhouses or coastal hotels. All of Italy slows down, soaks in the rays, and enjoys what life actually has to offer.

It’s a simpler, more beautiful way of life and my heart aches not to be with them this year. Usually, I would take August off and head home to be with them. I’ll visit with family and friends covered in salt and sand under a beach umbrella, slathered in lotion and SPF. With our borders closed, I’ll have to postpone my return to Italy until next year, but I’m grateful my loved ones are safe and healthy as Italy returns to life as normal amidst the pandemic.

August Design Inspiration

For this month’s Edit, I thought I’d bring a little bit of Italy to you with a curated Italian inspired bathroom. In Italy, the colors and surroundings are much more raw and vibrant. The materials are far more sophisticated and organic than what we’re accustomed to here in the United States. Below, I’ve included a roundup of visual inspiration inspired by those materials, along with links to natural stone that feels true to my Italian roots from a new tile vendor we’ve fallen in love with.
